For same day bookings, please call Jayne at 724-877-1887.
The Property on Shenango is a private preserve located on over 100 acres bordering the Shenango River for approximately a mile.
The Shenango River was voted 2021 River of the Year in Pennsylvania. Located in the quaint borough of West Middlesex and Shenango Township, The Property is conveniently located right off Interstate 80 on the PA/Ohio border and only an hour north of Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
There are two types of camping options to choose from. Designated Camping and Dispersed Camping. Currently there are five Designated Sites that have a picnic table and a fire pit. The sites are situated throughout the front portion of the property via groomed trails.
Dispersed Camping is for the adventurous camper that wants to venture out and find their own camp site in the back portion of the property. There's a trail that leads you along the river bank, through the woods and ends up at the far north east side of the property. This trail is currently ungroomed but definitely walkable.
Dispersed Sites can also be accessible by kayak or canoe from the river. There are areas alongside the riverbank to set up camp.
Whether you choose Designated or Dispersed Camping, you can walk and explore this ecological paradise that offers river views, wetlands, wooded areas, streams, and a variety of vegetation including wild flowers, berries, variety of trees, and an abundance of wildlife. Deer are seen quite frequently, as well as fox, beavers, rabbits, turtles, and a wild variety of birds.
There are several wetland areas throughout the property where you will see ducks, geese, herons, and possibly eagles. There is a Beaver Lodge that can be viewed from one of the trails and see trees that were cut down by the beavers.
When exploring The Property you will also come across several structures of the past such as the several large pillars that are referred to as the Stone Obelisks (because of their shape) dated back to the early 1950's. One is exposed to view. There are several other stone like structures you may come across as you walk around the groomed trails. History also tells of a Trolly Track that once ran past the property as well as a canal and railroad. The Property is rich with history.
For those campers who also enjoy kayaking, The Property is the perfect place for you. Use the Launch Area to the Shenango River to take a three hour float south to Pulaski, PA or drop in and paddle up river and back for a leisurely hour float. No need for pick up.
This is a Hipcamp you should definitely explore and stay. Enjoy the sounds of nature, see wild life, get fresh air and sunshine as you experience the many pleasures of The Property on Shenango.
